Cell phones in class issue

The article itself was well written i think.  It wasn't all out against cell phone use in class and saying thats its the devil in technology form and it wasn't just for it either.  It adressed both sides of the argument and offered examples and experiences teachers and students have had with cell phones in class.  I think this issue is really simple actually.  Texting when anyone is talking to you is disrespectful because there is no way you can actually hear what the person is saying to you when you're busy talking to your friends about something else.  If you were having a conversation with one of your friends face to face, I doubt you would be texting somone else at the same time.  So why do that in class when the teacher is teaching?  Show some respect and actually listen to what the teacher is saying, because it probably is pretty important.  But having said that, I think teachers should recognize the fact that students will want to talk to their friends and maybe let them use their phone when they're doing in class work.  This is the student's time to get their work done and if they want to use that time texting their friends, thats's up to them.  The only time they're wasting is their own.  Cell phone use in class isn't that bad, but there's a time and place for it.

I totally agree with the disresepct issue, it's massive within this school; this era really. I wish it were true, that when you talk with friends you shouldn't text other people but it happens all the time. People are so impersonal with each other these days.
Do you really think that given the opportunity that students will use class work time wisely if they're given the privilege to text in class?
    I don't, but I'm somewhat of a synic.
